A note from Bishop Allen about Security in Honduras

Bishop Lloyd Allen

Bishop Lloyd Allen

Grace and peace to you all from God our Creator, Jesus Christ our Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, our Comforter and Guide.

I am pleased to address you regarding the topic of security in Honduras, particularly in light of the U.S. State Department’s recent decision to elevate the travel advisory level for the country from Level 2 to Level 3.

This change reflects growing concerns over safety, especially amidst increasing gun violence in the United States, highlighted by recent incidents in cities like New Orleans and the explosion of a cyber truck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day alone, over 200 incidents of gun violence resulted in 78 deaths and nearly 200 injuries across the U.S. Firearms have become the leading cause of death from violence nationwide. . . .

As you prepare for your stay in San Pedro Sula, I encourage the GEMN Board to proceed with plans for the conference despite these challenges, as we continue to support each other through prayer and vigilance. We are currently hosting a mission team from San Antonio, Texas, for the 20th Year with no security issues. We have hosted mission teams from all over the US and Europe, and we have never experienced an incident. We do ask you to observe the same level of care that you would anywhere you travel today.
