  Mission Programs:

The Diocese of California's annual convention in 2007 overwhelmingly approved a resolution to enter into a companion relationship with the Diocese of Curitiba, Brazil.  Bishop Andrus has recommended that the partnership be viewed through the lens of the MDGs. The Companion Diocese Committee is currently preparing for the visit of Bishop Naudal for our October, 2008 Convention.

The Department of World Mission offers financial support and encouragement of world mission work. Some programs in 2007/2008  are:

1.Two short term mission pilgrimages: One to Kenya and On to Uganda.

2. Assistance with medical insurance for a missionary in Cameroon.

3.Co-sponsor the Sabeel Conference held in Berkeley in August, 2007.

4. Grace Cathedral's Ministry of Presence and Education in Nicaragua.

5. Missionary to Liberia from our Global Mission Group.

6. Delegate from the Diocese of California to FOR's (Fellowship for Reconciliation) seventh peace delegation to Iran.

Members of the Department meet four to five times a year with speakers and updates on global mission activity in the churches of the Diocese.

The department members in collaboration with the new Companion Diocese Initiative produced a "Survey of Global Relationships of Churches Within the Diocese of California" for the October, 2007 Convention.

Missionary support:

The Department of World Mission presented a workshop in May 2005 on mission for 29 people at the Diocesan Ministries Day. They provide an information table at convention. They meet four to five times a year with speakers and updates on global mission activity in the churches of the Diocese. There was no Ministries Day in 2006 since most of the energy of the Diocese was absorbed in the election of their new Bishop Marc Andrus.

bulletServing Missionaries:

Michael Tedrick is a volunteer for mission in the Diocese of Jerusalem.

Kenny and Ohna Ryan-King are appointed missionaries in the Panama.

Tracy Longacre is in Camaroon, Africa.

Lyra Harris is in the Young Adult Service Corps.
