Companion Diocese:  

    Two formal relationships: El Salvador and Jerusalem.

El Salvador

This relationship is centered on transformational journeys, cooperative youth programs, theological education, and building programs (some of which have been cooperative with ERD.) youth from Los Angeles, El Salvadore and Belize have worked together at Holy Cross Anglican School in Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Jerusalem

This relationship is focused on numerous pilgrimages to the land once called holy, some with youth and others led by Bishop Bruno and/or John Peterson.  Our leader is always Lvad Qumri, the only Anglican/Arab/Palestinian/Israeli licensed guide. There is an exemplary parish-to-parish relaitonship between the Church of Our Savious in San Gebriel and St. Paul's in Shef'Arnr.

The World Mission Group in the Diocese has established five focus areas:

Formation: Lay Leadership Development, Youth Ministry and Theological Education.

Abundance: Economic abundance in the diocese allows them to assist their Companion Dioceses. They strive to support and encourage ongoing ministry with sensitivity and attention to the challenges inherent in Companion Relationships when economic disparities are present. Their companions cultural abundance contributes to Lols Angeles Diocesan life.

Competence: Growing in cultural competence and effectiveness, competence for ministry among youth, laity and clergy.

Truth/Trust: The Diocesan witness and the offering of our perspective increases the development of trust across divides.

Service: They serve in their Companion Diocese and receive service from them. Ties with Diocese of Jerusalem have led to them being a foundational supporter of the Zababdeh Scholarship Program for Episcopalian Youth in Zababdeh, Palestine.

  

Missionaries from the Diocese of Los Angeles:

    Ms. Patsy Brierly serves as lay emissary and is establishing ties with the Anglican Church in Belize.

The Rev. Julie Bryant leads annual youth projects to Belize.

The Rev. Giovan King is fostering a relationship with Haiti.

Mr. Christian Kassoff has served as a short term lay missionary to Tanzania.

Canon Jane Smock travels frequently to the Diocese of Jerusalem organizing Diocesan groups in Transformational Journey.

The Rev. Barbara Stewart travels frequently to Mexico supporting their relationship with the Anglican Church in Mexico.

The Rev. George Woodward serves on the board of CRISTOSAL in El Salvador as well as serving on the GEMN board.

     The Rev. George Woodward returned from taking a group of 18 youth from the Diocese to join with 12 youth from the Diocese of El Salvador to engage in cultural exchange, hard work and a shared transformational journey on Isla Mendez in El Salvador.
